This past weekend, I can check off one thing off my list of "things to do before I die" . Yep..the U.S. Open was indeed on my list but I am proud to say this item can be crossed off with satisfaction. It also helped I saw some hotshots like hingis, venus, nadal, moya, the bryan brothers, and gasquet. I may have to make this a yearly thing. It's incredible to see these players on TV but to witness them hitting around 5 ft. in front of me is a whole other level. Even the qualifiers and no namers were amazing! Below you can find some pictures of the players. More can be found on my webshots a little later.
Another tidibit from that famed day: we were interviewed by the New York Daily News. Ry's famous! http://www.nydailynews.com/boroughs/queens/2007/08/21/2007-08-21_tennis_venue_deserves_better-2.html Too bad we fit into the status quo of 'young people' who really don't know the life story and honor that Arthur Ashe (the infamous stadium named after this man) deserved. More on Arthur Ashe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_ashe This man was not only the first African American tennis all star, but he was an advocate for social injustice like protesting against apartheid in South Africa. He died of AIDS which he contracted through a blood transfusion. The saddest part of all this? I'm shameful to say that I (and maybe the rest of the 30 and younger age group) only knew him to be the first African American tennis champ.
