Seems as though I haven't blogged in awhile so here is one of my recent stories:

It's not Milan, Paris, or even New York. But Secaucus will have showcase area trends with fashion, models and a runway. Look out, fashionistas! High fashion is coming to town Saturday for Fashion Weekend New Jersey.

FWNJ emphasizes locality but creates buzz for the state of New Jersey in the world of fashion through new and undiscovered talent in the area with fashion shows and shopping events.

Though New York has been touted as the fashion mecca on the East Coast, Executive Director of FWNJ Max Tapper disagrees and believes New Jersey gives the Big Apple a run for its money.

"New Jersey has more shoppers - Secaucus alone is a huge retail area - and also local designers; when New York designers do well, they move to New Jersey. FWNJ is to provide a platform for these up and coming designers," says Tapper.

Reaching out to 40-45 vendors in the tri-state area, Tapper aims to "bring fashion to the forefront in New Jersey" with beauty products, couture dresses and stylish and indigenous accessories from around the world at FWNJ.

Live DJs spinning, a congo player and cocktail drinks will be featured throughout the night to entice shoppers into a shopper's paradise and away from the slump in the economy.

"This year's event is focusing on an affordable shopping entertainment party. It's really just for people to enjoy a unique shopping experience at wholesale prices with some drinks and music," explains Tapper.

TruButter, aimed for the "purist," is a skincare product line that will showcase its all-natural cold-pressed shea butter moisturizers for a price that's worth its quality.

Trudie Coverdale, founder of TruButter, hopes her skincare company will gain more exposure at the event. "It's really hard to market a small company but I hope shoppers will try our products and compare them to other leading beauty brands," says Coverdale. "We use more than 30 percent of shea butter in our moisturizers and cost a lot less than those brands."

Rio Styles, an online shopping network - sharing unused items from maternity clothes to shoes - based out of Paterson, is also looking forward to FWNJ but wishes to create a shopping revelation Saturday night.

Jessica Fornez, the creator of Rio Styles, says, "My goal is to get the word out at FWNJ; Rio Styles is for women to get together and shop online by sharing cyber closets." The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and is open for those over 21, where a two-hour open bar special will take place. An advanced ticket price of $10 is being offered when printed out with the flyer on their site: www.FWNJ.org. For more information, email them at info@fwnj.org or call them at 973-277-3244.
