Today's temperature reaches a high of 84F. Is it me, or did we completely bypass the Spring season? Not too long ago, we were in a state of wintry oblivion. Sleet, rain, and flurries covered the cherry blossom trees and tulips planted in the ground. And now, I'm contemplating whether or not it's ethical to wear a sleeveless shirt and open-toed shoes in the workplace. This gets me worried--global warming is gracing us with glimpses of its presence in our environment more than ever. Ever since the Tsunami in Indonesia, the mudslides in Cali, and Hurricane Katrina, I don't know what clearer signs can be given about our deteriorating, vulnerable environment. I find that the U.S. alone is single-handedly destroying the environment. I know there are only a few cities, counties, and towns that actually fine households that do not recycle. Then again, I could be wrong. This comes from a girl that has been environmentally educated and brainwashed by the 90s cartoon sitcom--Captain Planet (just an FYI--loved that show).
I think a lot of us, myself included, has jumped onto this eco-friendly fad. I think this is exactly what Americans are doing to be eco-friendly: it's hip and the new trend these days, not to mention all the stars and their mothers are on this bandwagon. It also doesn't hurt that Al Gore made his indie/documentary film focusing on global warming and winning an award for it. Now, here's a question: Is it OK to be a part of this new trend b/c it's hot right now but still being semi eco-friendly by default of the trend, or not to jump on this trendy bandwagon and disregarding some environmentally charged issues that needs at least some awareness, if anything? Hmm..discuss.
So lately I've been really getting into the show Planet Earth. The filming of this show was intense but it has definitely paid off. The picture and quality of filming is simply remarkable. It really is astounding to see them capture miraculous events in Mother Nature. Viewing this show has sparked something inside of me--our world really is a beautiful place (sorry if this comes off as a grassroots, tree-hugging activist) and it's sad to see we are the cause of this environmental downfall.
