Revolution

Translation of the Statement from Hwang Jang-yop to the Protest Rally:

To My Friends in the U.S. at the Protest Rally, North Korean refugees and defectors are the direct victims of the Kim Jong-il's dictatorship and human rights violation. They are the freedom fighters and main part of the democratization of North Korea movement. They are not economic migrants but political refugees. We have to demand safe passage for those refugees in China and other countries to South Korea. We condemn the barbaric treatment toward these refugees by the neighboring country.
If they are arrested and repatriated, it is beyond description what they face in North Korea. Many defectors testified to that. They are being sent to the infamous political prison camps, and at times executed. Even now, there are many refugees in China, Mongolia, and other countries in Southeast Asia, whose lives are threatened and who try to survive from day to day. If we don't save them, who would? There are those who work for democracy and world order trying to save these refugees and protect their human rights. There are those who help the dictators. Where do you belong? We have to remember that these defectors will be the main driving force to reunify the Korean peninsula under democracy. We are all grateful and proud of the fact that the Americans, Korean-Americans, organizations like Defense Forum Foundation, North Korean Freedom Coalition and other international organizations for democracy and human rights join in these efforts. I salute you all who are at this Rally with my heart. Thank you very much.
